--- By ^Luck^ --- Second Undefined --- Lost Level or Rustic Ruin? >From Sonic CD The terrible, true tale of a level that got lost and never returned! By Steven R.J. Danieletto (^Luck^) I know that you’re probably sick to death of these theories but I feel I have a new theory on the lost level of Sonic CD, that is quite credible. While playing Sonic Jam, I came across a video of the ending of Sonic CD. This particular video contained a bit of footage left out of the final version Most notable however was what appeared to be a level which I did not recognise. The level looked like a ruin, with vines running across the ground and old structures. Sonic was running around dodging ground that would start to sink (like quicksand) as soon as he touched it. Then he finally touches one and a bug creature with 2 huge spiky jaw-like things (you can tell I’m no entomologist ;P ) pops up and tries to crunch him. Level look familiar? Of course it doesn’t! You’ve never seen it before. If you recall, in Sonic CD’s level select the level number go: 1-Palmtree Panic 3-Collision Chaos 4-Tidal Tempest 5-Quartz Quadrant....etc What is missing is level 2. Now is this a major coincidence or what; In the released ending video of Sonic CD you see a quick animation of Sonic having a little bout in each level. All the levels appear in the same order as they did in the game, i.e starting with Palmtree Panic, then Collision Chaos, etc. (except for Stardust and MetallicMadness). That lost level footage appears between Palmtree Panic and Collision Chaos, making it, drumroll......level number 2. I think we may be onto something here!!!If you have had the pleasure to see this video and you are a big Sonic fan, you may have noticed that the bug-thing looks familiar. Well.....remember Sonic 2 on the master system/gamegear? The Underground level sees you pitted against a bug-bot boss with 2 huge spiky jaw-like things, and it tried to crunch you (sort of). Robotnik comes along and mulches later, but it looks as though he may have resurrected it for Sonic CD. Wait a minute, that’s 2 things on Sonic CD that are from Sonic 2 MS/GG. What’s the other thing? Remember the music from Green Hills zone on Sonic 2? Well, it became the intro music and Sonic CD (Sonic Warrior ~you can do anything). Wow, someone back in Japan really like Sonic 2!Now what would this level have been called? Keep in mind that both part of the nameneed to begin with the same letter like Palmtree Panic (starts with a P) or TidalTempest. It’s a ruin so maybe "Rustic Ruin" was the name, but was later used in Sonic 3D. There is no proof of that, I’m just speculating. Seem credible? You be the judge. Go out there and find the video and view if for yourselves. Maybe the lost level isn’t this bloody "Dust Hill" crap that everyone goes one about. Just one more thing that I think is interesting. Ever noticed in Sonic 3’s split screengame that all the level are named in a sequence: Azure Lake Balloon Park Chrome Gadget Desert Palace Endless Mine That’s A, B, C, D, E all in consecutive order. Did Sega just get lazy and use a, b, c, d,e as their naming paradigm? wow, that’s a total useless thing to include, but it interests me as to why? Was in coincidental or purposeful? Will we ever know? Please direct all messages, arguments and pointless abuse to: Steven R.J.
