Saturn
Power was an ill-fated Sega Saturn magazine which lasted about
6 issues. During this time they were able to preview Sonic R
in their November '97 issue, and it was their cover story.

SEGA
Saturn Magazine was in love with Sonic R, with a lot of large
featurettes. This featurette in their October '97 issue contains
an early version where only Sonic was a playable character,
the character icons were very basic, and there was no map at
the bottom of the screen.
The
final page is an interview with Travelers Tales Programmer Jon
Burton.

In
November SEGA Saturn Magazine had another huge preview of the
game, six pages long with a cover. This version had a map, and
all 5 main characters were implemented as playable. The 2-player
mode was still only avaliable in Resort Island, Redient Emerald
and other secrets were still not shown, and the character icons
were still basic.
The
last page is an interview with Richard Jaques about the music
of the game.

EGM Reviewed Sonic R in Feburary, 1998. They were pretty unhappy with the game. Reads like a guy with a grudge :P

This
is the advertisement for Sonic R, with some Tarmac fitted with
an additional 'Sonic lane'. Very clever.
