This preview image of Labyrinth Zone has a different background, although it looks like it's pitch black due to the scan. Also there is a crystal on the rooftop which does not appear in the final.

This scan has a variety of differences. Firstly, there is a lack of water which should be viewable from the bottom. The crystal next to Sonic is missing in the final, and the two above him are replaced with a larger crystal. Lastly, there seems to be a hole above where Sonic begins [near the score number] which is blocked off in the final, possibly you could go another route.

This slide is meant to be filled with water, but is just a slope here. Sonic is also not in his 'being hit' animation, which he automatically turns to when hitting the water slope.

The background is different to the final, which is more of a darker version of the foreground. The crystals on the top are missing in the final, and subsituted with nothing, and there should be some water just below Sonic at this point.

Again, different background and crystal placements, At this point Sonic should be underwater by now, and a ball & chain should be swinging to the right of Sonic.
