                This
is an advert for the SEGA Powerline, before the hotline, in
Australia. There is a Sonic hooked up through the phone cord
                  at the bottom right.

                This
advert lasted for several pages, cliaming you just missed Sonic
as he zooms across the screen, until the final page pops up
where Sonic asks 'who hit the pause button?'

weird advertisement back in the old days, this had a warning
page beforehand saying 'get ready for the Sonic Boom', in which
this next image would pop up with screenshots of the game.

                This
was the advert on the back of a small Sonic comic which told
the basic storyline of the Dr. Robotnik and Dr. Kinitobor. It's
similar but different to the others.

quick clip out from the UK Sega Magazine, before it became the
SEGA Saturn Magazine. it shows and describes three shots of
Sonic 1 with things Sonic didn't do in the final game, from
Green Hill Zone and Marble Zone.

Found in the package of a second hand Sonic 1, this review from Computer & Video games contains a load of prototype screens. It's also one of the more poorly written and edited piece of paper in the history of video game magazines. Including incorrect names, prototype shots, and even an upside down image.
