A lot of the earlier Sonic 2 images showed off Sonic & Tails in the same screen, here Tails is at the top and Sonic is at the bottom, Sonic is using the Beta run animation.

This screenshot was one of the first shown, but doesn't reveal any real changes.

This is one of the early shots of Sonic 2. The HUD is not in italics like the final game, Sonic is using his Sonic 2 BETA sprites, Tails is missing and he's horribly off center.

Although barely seeable, Tails' icon in this picture says Sonic, just like the Sonic 2 Beta ROM.

A small difference in this picture, Eggman is coming down vertically instead of diagonally. We can see this as he would have reached the buggy addition by the time he hits the third coconut tree.
