Submitted by: Dr. Zachary An Early Sonic 3 image. You'll notice that the sprite being used in the image is in fact from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and is in that version of Sonics falling pose. |

Submitted by: Wiseman Yet another early prototype image. The only real difference here is the main Sonic & Tails sprites used, as they're from Sonic 2. |

Submitted by: Wiseman Again, another image with Sonic 2 sprites in place of where they should be the newer Sonic 3 sprites. Wiseman found both this and the above image in a SEGA Advertisement in a Spanish Magazine. |

Submitted by: Dr. Zachary Sonic 2 sprites used as placeholders in early versions of Sonic 3. |

Submitted by: Dr. Zachary Obviously most of the newer coding was completed at this time, as the anti-gravity spin-top seems to be in working order. Again, old sprites are used as placeholders. |

Submitted by: Dr. Zachary This is one of the more interesting prototype screenshots of Sonic 3. Although basically just another Sonic 2 animation in Sonic 3, it has Sonic running down the hill which he snowboards down in the final game. It's unknown whether Snowboarding was thought of at the time. |

Submitted by: Jan Abaza Although technically prototype, this scene is in the final game as well! The one Sonic 2 animation left in Sonic 3 to be found without hacking is this one. If you run at a fast enough speed in Carnival Night Zone on one of the anti-gravity twirling platforms Sonic will run up them using the animation. In Sonic 2, it is used for whenever Sonic does a twisting turn similar to this [ie; In Emerald Hill or Metropolis Zone] |
