A prototype Sonic CD cover, with an Anime-esque Sonic on the front. The final US version uses much more US-Styled artwork, like the art on Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3.

A very early title screen of the game, at one point called CD Sonic. This is the title of the prototype 510 of Sonic CD that we have, and would have been taken from that version.

A later version of the title screen taken from a Prima guide of Sonic 3. Its very close to being finished, but they are half way done in going from the Sonic 1 styled clouds of the image above, to the Mode-7 styled one from the final, so no clouds are present.

An early picture of the Eggman boss from the first level, complete with pincars instead of bumpers.

This early image of Collision Chaos Zone shows off a early changes in the level. Firstly, both the Anton and Mosqui enemies do not appear in this level in the final product, they are replaced with the Mantis-Bots and Bat-Bots. Secondly, there seems to be a barrier around Sonic, which seems to appear because of the speed he's moving at. Also, when he is going at such a speed, he should be moved across to the left of the screen, not the right.

As seen in the Sonic CD 510 page, this water is actually higher in the final game, but here it's quite low.
