This very early image of Sonic CD's special stage appears to be an extention of Sonic 1's Special stages, but with some sort of slot machine mechanic [see the top right corner]. It also looks a little bit like the falling Chaotix special stage.

Sonic is running through a prototype special stage. Here there are several oil slicks over the ground, and the UFO is an odd colour.

Again, more odd coloured UFOs, usually they are more black instead of a large grey spot.

A very very early special stage pictyre. The background isn't twisty of crystalised, and has a large mountainside and planet instead. The UFOs have been replaced by a balloon which Sonic would have to pop.
