Besides the two main levels, there are also two top-down special stages to go along with them. This one is grouped with Stage 1, and has a pink/yellow floor, along with some green pieces. There is also some water puddles with cheap Megadrive transparency.

In these stages there are no real boundaries. Sonic & Tails can walk over anything, nothing was really programmed in.

Near the top of the level is a waterfall, completely animated but doesn't affect Sonic or Tails. You'll notice the background is the same one from Level 2.

This second special stage is grouped together with Level 2. It has a mechanical theme to it with many little objects around. Again, you cannot interact with anything.

The backdrop for this level fades in and out continuously, as if inside a large storm cloud.
