Tails faces Knuckles in this early design for the Flying Carpet level. Neither Knuckles or Tails have shadows in this picture.

Tails and Knuckles continue to stare into each others eyes, giving fear to their opponents. You can see in the corner there is a very different style of arena than in the final.

Tails also almost looks like he's got Sonic's arms in this picture, but that might just be lighting.

Amy does a quick pose in her story level. This is the best picture to view the old corners of the arena. The candle is very different, particularly the base. Instead of a hovering sphere beneath, it has a flat bottom like a regular candle holder. The actual flame is also different, as the final has more of a gradient to it.

A complete shot of the arena. As you can see, it's tied down to the ground by 4 columns being held together by a rock square. These, along with the Egyptian writing, were taken out of the final game. The characters still do not have shadows.

The carpet is similar to the one in the final, but the prototype one is missing the carpet 'ends' from the final version.
